[Featured App Review] Doodle Kart – Multiplay

Jul 18, 2010 by

Wildly popular at the time of release, Doodle Kart – Multiplay changed the way we think about racing games for the iOS platform.

Doodle Kart – Multiplayer by j2sighte is a $0.99 doodle style racing game available on the Apple App Store for $0.99.

First impressions: funny music. What can I say? I like music. And the main menu music certainly made my list of most comedic music ever. Second on the list is of you play Eminem’s Not Afraid and fast forward using an iPod Touch or iPhone when it starts and at about 2:02, the voice just goes up really humourously. For a doodle game, the menu was actually pretty clean and well organized and well done.

“If you’ve liked my previous game: A Doodle Flight, you should try my friend’s new game: Goku Flight”

“This game is inspired by Nano Rally from Sauce Digital
If you love this game, please try Nano Rally”

There are many things I like about this game: the fact that it has 25 different tracks (a lot!) and many (many) [many] different difficulty settings. SUPER EASY, EASY, NORMAL, HARD, NIGHTMARE. And the fact that it has Bluetooth multiplayer really impressed me. My friend William and I play Bluetooth multiplayer games (BROTHERS IN ARMS 2) every night. You also get to choose your car’s stats and colour. Oh, and by the way,  the music is better in the actual game. Except when the main menu music gets added to it. One thing I really dislike: CONTROLS. The fact that you only get one control setting and you can’t change it really disappointed me. But the use of items reminds me of Shrek Kart and Mario Kart and this app certainly gets points for that.

Graphics: 3/5 – Not bad for a doodle game.

UI: 4.5/5 – Surprisingly clean for a doodle game.
Gameplay: 3.5/5 -Controls hinder gameplay but still pretty fun considering all the elements of gameplay.
Creativity: 2/5 – Doodle + Racing = Low BUT Doodle + Racing x Awesome = 2.
Sound: 4/5 – Comedic and overall good job.
Controls: 2/5 – Sorry, controls sucked.
Difficulty: 5/5 – Considering all the difficulties, I have to give this one a 5.
Longevity: 4/5 – Strictly based on skill and difficulty.
Entertainment: 5/5 – See opening paragraphs.
Value: 5/5 – Worth it.

Total: 38/50 or 76% – Recommended? Yes.
