[App Review] BeejiveIM

Sep 5, 2010 by

BeejiveIM (With Push) by Beejive. Inc. is an extremely lightweight and ultrafast IM client for the iOS platform available on the Apple App Store for $9.99.

First impressions: The user interface is organized, clean and friendly. Seems easy to use with many features and vast customizations.

Selected as one of the best apps in iTunes Rewind 2009, see what reviewers are saying about BeejiveIM.

“With support for just about every major IM protocol we ever find ourselves using alongside things like voice/image transfers, Beejive was already our IM client of choice… Background notifications really just sealed the deal, and anything else they’ve added was just frosting on the already delicious cake.”
— TechCrunch

“Overall, after testing various IM apps, Beejive is by far my favorite. The interface is slick and beautiful.”
— Wired

“BeejiveIM is an incredibly full-featured IM client, boasting capabilities that almost put it on par with desktop IM clients.”

Wow. A real step forward from IM+. Since I got BeejiveIM, the only reason I kept IM+ was for the push mail and push Twitter features. Other than that, I use BeejiveIM. Why? Because Beejive is better! First of all, it’s faster and has no connection issues, it loads quicker (chat and start-up), the actual user interface is much simpler to use and way easier to navigate chats (and doing that with Beejive is lag-free; see IM+). Everything is simpler and easier and there’s nothing bad I can say about Beejive. It supports AIM, MobileMe, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, Myspace IM, Yahoo! and Facebook. You can manage buddies and chats easily, adding buddies or starting chats inside the app itself. But what surprised me, see, I use textPlus, TextFree and TextNow to send text messages but if you have a valid AIM or Yahoo! account, you can text inside BeejiveIM too! (OMG! TEXTING!!!) So, pretty much this app has everything (except push mail). One bad thing I can say about BeejiveIM is that it took me a while to find the Settings. (Turns out it was in the Settings app.)

Graphics: 5/5 – Awesome and pretty!
UI: 5/5 – Amazingly simple and easy to use.
Simplicity/Ease of Use: 5/5 – Simple and easy to use was what I was talking about the whole time.
Creativity: 1.5/5 – Chat. Beejive is a creative name though! Beats IM+ by miles.
Sound: 2.5/5 – Only a few sounds.
Controls: 5/5 – Can’t really explain this one but you get the point.
Speed: 5/5 – First place: BeejiveIM. Second to ninety-nineth are empty. One hundredth: IM+. Hundred and first: eBuddy.
Connectivity: 5/5 – Great! No connection shit like IM+.
Entertainment: 5/5 – Beejive makes chatting fun!
Value: 5/5 – IM+ isn’t worth $9.99 but BeejiveIM is!

Total: 44/50 or 88% – Great! Amazing! Spectacular! Terrific!
