I had high expectations for this game. When it first came out, it hogged the #1 paid app spot for a couple weeks. Normally, games that reach that are normally good.

When these types of games first came out, I was one of the first to play them. And boy did I enjoy them. But then they got boring and repetitive. I can’t say the same about Trenches.

First impressions: the logo in the beginning and the loader screen looked professional and I immediately felt the full effect of the music in the menu. Sounded exactly like what should be used in a game about a war.

There are three modes of gameplay: campaign (the main part), skirmish and multiplayer.

Starting backwards, there are lots of different modes and maps for multiplayer. The game is GameCenter enabled and has achievements. One problem is that there is nobody else on multiplayer so that is pretty useless unless you organize a game with a friend which is a pain.

Skirmish has the same maps and modes as multiplayer but your objective is to build and control three bunkers.

Aside from gameplay, I would like to point out how great the music is; I honestly enjoyed it and feel that it is very suspenseful and fits the gameplay very well.

Then there’s the main game, the campaign. You go through many campaigns completing various assorted tasks to help win the war. As the troop’s leader, you control moving, resources and soldiers. You have to help defeat the enemy soldiers. I think that the gameplay in campaign mode is phenomenal and just amazing. You can play for a really long time but one thing I don’t like is that the controls can get confusing and they’re not the most easy controls.

So how does this amazing app rank?

Graphics: 5/5 – Simply put, great.
UI: 3.5/5 – I liked it, it was really well done but the Continue button continues to have me befuddled.
Gameplay: 5/5 – Loved it; three gameplay modes all fully featured. Should be three apps in one.
Creativity: 3/5 – It’s been done before – but not this well.
Sound: 5/5 – Loved the music. Where can I buy it?
Controls: 3.5/5 – They do get annoying and confusing eventually.
Difficulty: 5/5 – Guess where I’m stuck? (Hint: Relatively close to the beginning)
Longevity: 5/5 – It’s been a few months. I’m not done yet.
Entertainment: 4.5/5 – Yes. Love it. Better than Legion.
Value: 5/5 – One more yes; one dollar. And let me say this again: it’s been a few months.
Total: 44.5/50 or 89% – Recommended? Yes. Click that app store button already.
