CNET reports earlier this week that the Apple App Store reportedly earned $1.78 billion in 2010 — a 132% increase over its 2009 revenue, but is Apple losing its grip in the field of mobile applications?

Apple has a chain of  competitors imitating its successful moves. The App Store, which most claim to be pretty successful would not be an exception and similar app stores by different companies started hitting the global mobile market, therefore, Apple’s market share has gone down by 10%, relatively high in terms of market share.

Apple is not at risk of losing its market dominance any time soon, but this will be a pain in the butt for Apple executives and may lead (or have lead) to increased/tougher regulations over its store and the products it distributes, and with subscriptions right on the horizon, whether good or bad, Apple will have changed the mobile market place forever.
