Sony Bans PS3 Hackers for Life

Feb 18, 2011 by since the PlayStation 3 was hacked by hacker extraordinaire George Hotz, Sony has been on edge, even, as most of you know, going so far as to sue Geohot and fail0verflow. And now, gamers every where feel this is the final straw, as they receive notifications threatening permanent bans on their PlayStation Network accounts unless the comply with the following:

Immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.

As most gamers know, you never, ever, ban someone from your gaming network if you want to keep your customers, and although the beginning of the ban is unknown, some users have already confirmed seeing these notices.

Reminder: If you get error 0x8002A227 sony banned your ps3 from the psn. (via @Mathieulh)

The potential implications of this may foreshadow possible action taken by Apple to scare away jailbreakers.

Let’s just hope we can get out of this with our jailbreaks, and our highscores, intact.
