Redsn0wThis jailbreak is for:

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch 3
  • iPod touch 4
  • iPad 1G

Back up all your Cydia packages through simple command line commands. Use this guide to help. (Difficulty Level: Extremely Easy)

Redsn0w will NOT unlock your iPhone if you have a locked baseband. It is not an unlock, it is a jailbreak. Don’t bug MuscleNerd or sherif_hashim about the unlock. It will come when it’s ready.

You MUST be on 4.3.1 before starting this process, or it won’t work.

If you are an unlocker STAY AWAY. We will not be responsible if you lock your iPhone using this guide or software.

First, you’ll need to download both Redsn0w and the 4.3.1 IPSW file for your iDevice.

Redsn0w can be found here.

And the IPSW for your device here.

  1. Open redsn0w. It will look like this. Make sure you have the correct version, at least Redsn0w 0.9.6rc9.
  2. Click the button labeled “Browse” and select the IPSW for your device. Make sure it is the 4.3.1 IPSW. If you have selected the correct file it will say IPSW successfully identified.
  3. On the next screen, make sure you only select the “Install Cydia” option.
  4. Keeping your device plugged in, turn it off. Make sure you keep it plugged in while turning it off.
  5. Click next, then follow the instructions that are given. Make sure you follow them as closely as possible.
  6. Once you have followed the instructions in Redsn0w, your device will be jailbroken. Don’t unplug it until Redsn0w says it’s finished.

Once everything has finished and your device has rebooted, you’ll notice a new icon on your SpringBoard called “Cydia.” Open it and let it rearrange some files, once it has, you’ll be able to reinstall all your hacks and tweaks.

NB some hacks and tweaks have not yet been updated for 4.3.1, most have, and the others will most likely be updated very soon.
