Apple disables over-the-air updates for jailbreakers

Looks like jailbreakers have been left in the dust, as MuscleNerd, a prominent member of the iPhone Dev Team, points out that over-the-air updates from iOS 5 beta 3 to iOS 5 beta 4 (and presumably future firmwares) will not work on jailbroken devices, for it checks for /Applications, a symbolic link created upon jailbreaking.

The 5.0b4 OTA update won’t work on JB devices due to an explicit check of /Applications..almost like a present from Apple

I’m sure hackers can circumvent this in the future, but we can’t be sure.

This may be quite helpful for people who unwillingly upgrade to unjailbreakable firmwares however, until they sync with iTunes of course.
