Apple kills rental of TV shows; cloud alternative on its way?

Aug 26, 2011 by

The reason many Apple TV 2 owners bought their Apple TVs was axed by Apple, today.

That’s right. TV show episodes are no longer available for rental on the iTunes Store.

Previously $0.99, it was a great incentive for people to go and buy the Apple TV 2 and purchase more content on the iTunes Store as a result of that.

Apple says that the reason they’re killing the rentals are because its customers prefer buying the full TV show, as they can rewatch it whenever they like.

Now, carrying out their iCloud plan, soon, you can stream full purchased TV shows to your devices through iCloud, rendering rentals obsolete.

This has many people thinking, is Apple going too far with iCloud? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
