More than half a million apps in the Android Market

According to intelligence firm research2guidance, the Android Market contains 500,000 published apps, a number slowly approaching Apple’s 600,0000 in the App Store.

All though all signs show that Android may be catching up to iOS in terms of third-party applications, that may not necessarily be the case, as Google’s one-time $25 fee along with no submission guidelines and inconsistent support from phone-to-phone make it a hotbed of malware, crapware, and generally lower-quality applications compared to their iOS equivalents (Facebook, Twitter, just to name a few).

What do you think? Which one do you prefer? Does the Android Market have more potential than iOS? Let us know in the comments section below!
